Three Ways to Make the Most of Your Musical Process When You’re on the Road

October 18, 2017 by Keith Alderson

There is an amazing array of benefits when you travel. Not only is it a lot of fun, you’ll learn a ton about other cultures, and you may even experience the interconnectedness of humanity. But, that’s not all.

Travel can be inspirational. It has prompted the creation of many great works of art, enthralling books, and emotional songs. In search of the inspiration for that next great tune, some musicians adopt a nomadic lifestyle.

If you’re on the road making music, make the most of your musical process with these three tips.

The Right Software

There was once a time when the only way to record music was to head into the studio. That made traveling and recording nearly impossible. With digital music, that’s definitely not the case today.

Because the digital format records music as a series of numbers and not a complete wave, you can literally make music anywhere, at any time, and store it on any computer. You just have to make sure you have the right software and resources.

Cymatics offers a wide variety of packages that include:

  • Wavetables
  • Presets
  • Tutorials
  • Drum and synth loops
  • And more

Making music on the go is even easier if you look into mobile apps. You could literally mix and make music anywhere as long as you have your phone in your pocket.

The Right Equipment

The right software is a must, but without the right equipment, it’s useless.

Make sure you have a high-quality laptop that can handle complex musical software. It’s also a good idea to choose a laptop with a long battery life so you don’t have to be tied to an electrical outlet every time you’re inspired to create a new track.

Don’t depend on your computer’s speakers to provide you with great sound. Invest in a quality pair of headphones so you can hear your music the way it was intended to be heard.

If you want to get into recording equipment to enhance your tracks, just make sure that whatever you choose is portable.

Immerse Yourself in the Local Culture

Even with the right software and equipment, music won’t make itself! Use your travels to inspire you by immersing yourself in the local culture.

There are many different musical styles that are popular around the globe that can be used as inspiration, so use them to your advantage when you travel. Visit local coffee shops, attend concerts, and talk to locals about their favorite bands. Hang out with local musicians and see if they would be willing to collaborate with you on a new track.

Even viewing local art, eating local food, and taking in the local architecture can be enough to inspire you to create your best song yet!

With digital music, you can literally go anywhere in the world and continue creating new songs everywhere you go. Just make sure you follow these three tips so you’re proud of the tunes you play for your friends and family.
