Ravenous Chef Eating His Way Around The World

3 Tips to Set Up a Memorable Food Tour

May 9, 2022 by Keith Alderson

If you are a passionate foodie, the idea of taking a trip to experience a wide variety of food might sound appealing. Whether you are sticking to one city or going to multiple destinations, there are several ways to make sure your trip is unforgettable. You can take food tours while traveling that are set up as group activities or excursions, or you can plan one yourself that best suits your tastes, timetable, and budget. It all begins with the right planning steps.

Ensure It’s a Good Mix

Your trip will be better if you take the time to research different eating places in the areas you want to hit. Spend some time looking over each menu online to think about what you may want to eat. You will likely want to have smaller meals or snacks at each place so you will have time to sample more items. It does take some time to do this type of research, so you may want to give yourself several weeks or even months to get all the information together.

You’ll also want to spend some time planning a variety of stops. That may even mean going to multiple cities so you can experience the unique food each has to offer. Luckily, the travel portion of the trip doesn’t have to be that difficult. You can find cheap bus tickets online to get to the next location so you don’t even have to worry about driving. That way, you can feel free to enjoy a drink or two on your trip as well.

Consider the Impact of Physical Activity

Think about the ages of the people who will be going with you. If you are raising an adventurous eater that is incredible, but be sure you are not forgetting about the to and from aspect with little ones. If you are doing some walking, consider whether everyone is in good enough physical shape to do so. You should also think about the amount of food you will be eating during the tour. You will likely want to sample a wide variety of items, but you will need to balance that out with how much physical activity you will be doing. You don’t want to be uncomfortably full and then have to walk a long way to the next location.

Consider the Timing

It’s a good idea to consider timing when you are thinking about the places you want to stop. You might want to leave enough time to make sure you can fully enjoy the food and perhaps even speak with the chef or managers about their food. The number of stops you decide to make, as well as the amount of time you have, will determine the timing. You don’t want to feel like you are rushed, and you will want to leave some time for spontaneity, so try to allow for anywhere from half an hour to a few hours at each stop.

You will want to check on when each restaurant opens and closes so you aren’t trying to rush. Consider calling ahead to find out when their busiest times are. If you can go during an off time, you might find you get faster and better service. You might want to have some backup locations planned in case one is closed for some reason.
