Ravenous Chef Eating His Way Around The World

Eating In Stockholm

January 30, 2019 by Keith Alderson

Sweden is a popular hotspot for tourists, mainly down to their love of food. Stockholm, in particular, has made a name for its self as being one of the best cities in the world for a unique dining experience. You can easily get there via plane or last minute cruises so if you decide to go, here are three tips that you should consider before deciding on a location for a meal in Sweden’s capital.

Lunch Meal Hacks

Sweden’s restaurant scene has a reputation for being expensive. Unfortunately, I’m not here to dispel that rumour, but instead, offer an alternative option.

If you’re to sit down for a proper restaurant meal; your wallet will feeling lighter. But dine al fresco at one of Stockholm’s kiosks and save.  Hot dog kiosks are your best option. But other options; such as Thai do exist.

Or if you’re in the mood for a burger, hit up the local fast food chain, Max. A regular burger (albeit a small one) costs just 15 SEK ($1.76) without add-ons.

Research is the key, you will find the ideal place for lunch, but I would stay well clear of Östermalm- even the pop-up kiosks are expensive in that area.

Gamla Stan has an abundance of lunchtime specials; priced at 100 SEK. For this, you get one dish and the Swedish favourite of a self-serving salad bar.

Sea Food Lovers

If you are a lover of seafood, Stockholm is the place for you, and you will never want to leave.

This is the one cuisine Stockholm does well alongside traditional Swedish dishes. The city’s closeness to the Baltic Sea and centuries of fishing means that Swedes have mastered the art of cooking seafood. Most importantly, they have uncovered the true versatility of fish.

In the Nordics, you can expect to see different variations of fish such as fresh fish and baby prawns, crawfish and fish roe. I am not even mentioning the extensive selection of smoked fish.

Herring -known as Sill in Swedish- is an integral part of the Nordic culture. There are over ten species of this silver coloured fish. The chances are you’ll be eating either Atlantic or Baltic while you’re in Sweden.

Salmon is also an option and should you be undecided on what to have; this is a great decision. The curled salmon is a popular option among Swedes. When ordering fish, you would be safe to go with anything; as everything is of a high standard.

SkyView

SkyView is a unique attraction that transports tourists to the top of the world’s largest spherical building, Ericsson Globe. Additionally, SkyView is entirely accessible for wheelchairs.

This would give you the perfect location to enjoy the NetBet roulette game. You can experience the exciting world of online casinos while enjoying the best view in the city.

It holds the record for the largest hemispherical building in the world, was opened in 1989. The interior volume is larger than 21 million cubic feet, with an indoor height of 279 feet.

The SkyView attraction is separate from the Globe. Therefore, it is aimed at tourists visiting Stockholm.

The entire experience lasts for around 30 minutes, so it doesn’t require much of a time commitment and is something to do if you have spare time.
